Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease usually appearing in people over 45 years old. It develops from years of wear and tear on a joint causing the cartilage to become worn away. Without cartilage, the bones come in contact with each other, leading to joint erosion and pain. .

The knee is one of the most common joints to be affected by osteoarthritis, leading to serious effects on one’s mobility, quality of life and livelihood. Pain, swelling and stiffness from cartilage damage and loss can make it difficult even to walk or climb stairs.

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a disease where it cannot be stopped or reversed. Treatment for knee osteoarthritis is aimed to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, slow down joint damage and improve function.
