Curious to know the story behind our Valentine's Day handmade doll? This coming Valentine's Day, we have collaborated with Yu En that runs her own sock dolls business.
The founder of “I love Socks Doll”, Yu En runs her own sock dolls business based in Johor Bahru. Prior entering the handicraft industry, Yu En completed her diploma in accountancy. She felt that the office working environment is too boring for her hence, she started doing handmade sock dolls to bring smiles for those who received her dolls.
It was merely just a hobby for her in making socks doll whenever she has free time. She learnt how to make them through online and look for ideas from the internet, books, newspaper and TV cartoon programs. She even took the time to study and try to make them. Making socks doll in the beginning was not easy for her, but she finds it interesting and fun to make them. Yu En always aim for excellence and perfection in her sock dolls; she will always figure out ways to perfect her dolls.
Her interest slowly became a business and people have taken an interest on her handmade dolls. Her family and friends are all very happy to receive her handmade dolls as the materials used are soft and fluffy. The materials used in her doll making are environmentally-friendly polyester cotton, recycled socks and has anti-chemical properties to save the environment. Old clothes is also used to make detachable clothes on the doll.
She said “although my handmade doll maybe a gift to someone else, a kid’s toy or a token of love and promise; she hopes that the receiver can hug them without worry and treasure it for a long time”.
