Grand Total:

Marriage and Motherhood

by Stefanie | 21 Apr 2020

Marriage is indeed a beautiful celebration of love. Built entirely on commitment, it brings together two individuals, who were once strangers to start a new chapter in life together. You start your honeymoon vacation as newlyweds and end it as husband and wife. With that, comes new responsibilities, new priorities and new roles. As a wife, all you want is for your marriage to be filled with love and happiness but like everything else in life, every chapter has its fair share of ups and downs.

Let us first establish that perfection does not exist. You go into marriage with unrealistic expectations and ideas of the perfect way to think, act and feel as husband and wife. Most of the time, you perceive other women to be the perfect wife when you see them accomplishing their goals perfectly… or at least that is what they want you to see. These expectations are not only impossible but also inaccurate because they are not stemming from yourself. Realizing this can help you understand all you need to do is to be yourself. Marriage is a long-term promise to compromise and grow together. Focus your attention on your husband and do not be distracted in a search for identity and self-esteem rooting from other individuals. Believe in yourself, embrace your individuality and put on the best accessory a woman can wear- confidence!

Similarly, if you are also taking on the role as a mother, the pressure to give your child only the best can be incredibly draining at times. It is important to remember that your child does not need a perfect mother. All they need is a happy mother. Parenting is a relatively subjective topic and there is no specific guidebook to abide by. You know your child better than anyone else so there is really no need to compare yourself to other mothers. Though motherhood is a journey of long-term responsibilities, you need to prioritize your own needs too. Give yourself some alone time every now and then. Dedicate at least one day in a week to pamper yourself and regain your energy. Taking time for self-care is crucial to being a healthy mother for your child and your family.
