Grand Total:

Why You Should Listen To Your Body

by Stefanie | 7 Oct 2020

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s much easier to tune out rather than tune in to your body. Whether it be family responsibilities, workspace tasks or personal social obligations, we will tend to channel our attention towards external factors instead of focussing to what’s happening internally. When you stop listening to your body’s whispering, distress and anxiety slowly builds up causing your body to cry and scream for your attention.

Experiencing any sort of discomfort is oftentimes, your body telling you it is facing imbalance in some way. Your eyelids may feel heavy and you might get a mild headache if you have been sitting and staring at your computer screen all day. Or your tummy might rumble and feel clenched if you have been eating foods that aren’t the best for your health. Though these are commonly experienced signs of distress that are relatively not serious, they do have the potential to grow into some more severe conditions that can deteriorate your health.

So, here’s the general rule of thumb according to The Health Sessions. Your body’s signals can mean two things:

1. Your body is sending you early warning signs of illness.
Anything out of the ordinary that you experience should never be ignored. For example, seeing blood in your urine or stool, noticeable weight or appetite loss or any lumps or bumps anywhere on your body typically indicates that there’s an underlying health issue you need to pay attention to. Consult your doctor if you begin experiencing such inexplicable signs that may happen frequently and/or are persisting.

2. Your body is telling you you’re pushing yourself too far.
There is no doubt that working hard reaps the best benefits for you. But taking on more than you can carry only gets overwhelming. You begin running low on energy and resources and it wears you out tremendously both physically and mentally. For example, migraines and headaches, a rumbling tummy and breakouts and dark circles are all signs that you need to take a break, rest and make changes before your body and mind reach their breaking points.

Of course, we’re not medical professionals so we aren’t able to diagnose and go into the early warning signs of any potential illness. But, we’re here to remind you to always listen to your body. Pay attention to any signs it’s giving you and you will definitely see a change in your overlook towards life.
