Essential Oil On Skin Yes or No?

by Queenie Lee | 20 Aug 2021

When we talk about the uses of essential oil, not only to improve wellbeing but also to treat skin conditions. Some of them have nourishing properties and offer benefits such as brightening and moisturising your skin. If you’re considering making it a part of your skincare routine, make sure you know everything well before you do so.
How to use it correctly and safely? Can it be applied directly to your skin? How to prevent allergies or irritation? Let’s jump into the topic of the day- Essential Oil On Skin Yes or No.

Can the essential oil be applied directly to the skin?
No. It must be diluted with carrier oil before applying to the skin directly. We recommend doing a patch test before applying to the skin to avoid allergies.

What is carrier oil?
Carrier oil is a base oil that is used to dilute essential oils before applying it topically as a pure essential oil can be too potent to be applied directly to skin.

How should I dilute the essential oils?
Add a few drops of essential oils in carrier oil in a small bottle to dilute it.
You may refer to the following dilution chart.

Why and how to do a patch test?
Patch testing allows you to check for any signs of reaction to essential oils. You'll be able to identify an allergy before you're fully exposed to the products. It is for your safety and convenience.
Apply a small amount of the diluted oil to a bandage, wrap the bandage on a small application site such as the inner wrist or just below the elbow. Wait for 24 - 48 hours.
Discontinue using it if you get any irritation. Avoid using that oil (or a blend that contains that oil) directly on your skin.

Can I mix the essential oil into my skincare products?
Yes, you may mix the essential oils into moisturiser, lotion to apply. However, it is not recommended for those who are having sensitive skin. Our essential oils are 100% pure and concentrated, it may be very allergenic and can cause a reaction for those who have sensitive skin. It can be irritating or allergic to sensitive skin.
When it comes to applying essential oils onto your skin, always dilute your essential oil with carrier oil and do a skin patch test to prevent any unnecessary irritation.
