Signature Market Cares: 5 DIY Skincare Products

by Stefanie | 12 Apr 2020

Though staying at home can get boring at times, it is an amazing time for you to invest in self-care. Practicing a self-care ritual can be incredibly therapeutic as it balances and keeps track of your physical, mental and emotional well-being. Set aside some time every day to give back to your body and mind. Be responsible to yourself and know your worth because you truly know yourself best.

Here at Signature Market, we believe that self-care starts from within. Our skin is often neglected because many assume that a skincare routine is too tedious and pricey to keep up with. However, it is actually quite the opposite! Choosing products that are au naturale are much better as opposed to using chemical laden products. They are gentler on the skin and work miracles. A good rule of thumb to remember is if you would not choose to eat such chemicals, you should not put them on your skin either.

We put together 5 simple skincare essentials using ingredients you most probably already have laying around your kitchen. So let’s get to cooking!

Disclaimer: We are not professionals in the skincare industry so these may or may not work, depending on your skin type. These were compiled based on online sources and research. Should you be allergic to any of the listed ingredients, kindly refrain from using.

1. Honey & Brown Sugar Face Scrub

Exfoliation is a key step in your skincare routine because it helps unclog your pores and remove dead skin cells lounging around on your skin. Use this 2-3 times a week, or as needed when your skin is feeling a little too dry. Brown sugar acts as a gentle scrub while honey locks in the moisture once your pores are unclogged.

What you need
• 1 tablespoon brown sugar
• 1 tablespoon honey, preferably raw

Directions
1. Mix the brown sugar and honey together until you get to a paste-y consistency.
2. Use clean fingertips and gently spread it over your face in circular motions.
3. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

2. Rice Water & Aloe Vera Toner

Toning your skin helps to remove any residue from your skin. It helps restore your skin’s natural PH level and as such aides in a clean and clear slate to absorb hydration better. Use this before applying moisturizer daily. Rice water tightens and lightens the skin as well as fading any dark spots. Meanwhile, aloe vera acts as a healing agent to brighten and even out skin tone.

What you need
• ¼ cup rice water
• 2 teaspoons aloe vera gel

Directions
1. Mix the rice water and aloe vera gel together and store this mixture in the fridge.
2. Pour this toner directly onto the palms of your hands and pat it gently into the skin.
3. Proceed with moisturizer while your skin is still damp.

3. Green Tea Face Mist

Facial mists are not an essential part of your skincare routine but it does help in refreshing your skin, giving it that instant glow and hydration. It can also be used as a setting spray for makeup to keep it long-lasting. Green tea has excellent anti-inflammatory properties so it is great at helping your skin heal and relax. It is also packed with Vitamin E to nourish the skin.

What you need
• 1 green tea bag
• 1 cup boiled water

Directions:
1. Steep the green tea bag in boiled water for 5 minutes.
2. Let it cool and put it in a spray bottle.
3. Spritz it on any time of the day to refresh and hydrate your face.

Dark circles and puffy under eye bags can pose as an insecurity for many people. However, eye patches are great at offering relief and reducing your tired eyes.
