Grand Total:

ARE YOUR OATS SAFE?

by Jennifer | 23 Aug 2018

As you have heard now about oatmeals, cereal and granolas having traces of weed killers, particularly from Brands like Quacker Oats to Cheerios cereals.

Although oatmeal, with its hearty dose of fiber, a great breakfast choice for staying full and energetic has traces of the herbicide glyphosate. Glyphosate is commonly used by farmers across the industry who apply it pre-harvest.

Glyphosate is most often used in Roundup Ready corn and soybean crops that have been genetically modified to be resistant to the powerful herbicide —weeds die, the crops remain for better growth and ease of harvesting. The practice of spraying glyphosate on other crops, including oats, lentils, and sugar beets, prior to harvest to dry them out and speed ripening, while not standard, is a strategy farmers sometimes engage.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a Washington, D.C. advocacy group that assessed the oat products and found several traces of Glyphosate which has at high levels, has links to cancer. Almost three-quarters of food samples tested showed higher glyphosate levels.

But worry not, our Signature Market oats are imported from Finland so there are no traces of glyphosate in our oats. Thus, it is 100% safe, trust us!

Love,
Signature Market.
