by Kevin | 2 May 2019

Work can often becomes stressful, and stress can often lead to the need of having something to snack on, at least in Malaysia. But many people have often ignored the fact that you can actually be eating healthy, even though you may be snacking. Eating healthy is not as difficult as it may seem, you just need to put your mind to it. And in Malaysia, there is definitely no shortage of some of the most amazing sources of snacks that you can get your hands on! Having healthy snacks for work on hand at the office is a key for staying fueled and focused when you might need it the most. Whether you may be in the middle of a big project or even if you are chained to your desk with a looming deadline, they will most certainly help in keeping your energy up and your blood sugar stable during an afternoon slump. Game, set, match, and avoid stale donuts that are found in the break room. A solid snack should contain some protein and fiber to help keep you satisfied until your next meal. In this article, we will be taking a look at a few healthier alternative for snacks while you are at work!

SEEDS.
Seeds are a source of protein, and they are easy to store, quiet, and not messy. They are great by themselves, and even better when you put them on top of things such as toast, yogurt, or even oatmeal. Some of the favorites are the pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, but chia seeds and hemp seeds are great alternatives, too.

PLAIN OATMEAL PACKETS.
Oatmeal is not just meant for breakfast, you can stash it in your drawer for a hearty snack, too. Packets of instant, plain oatmeal microwaved with water in a mug and simply sprinkled with some cinnamon is a great cold weather snack when you tend to crave for something warm and filling. Just make sure that you choose an unflavored option, as many others out there are loaded with extra sugars. You can also try storing a full canister of quick oats right at your desk.

RAW NUTS.
Raw nuts are another great desk snack option due to the fact that they are shelf stable and, they deliver a great protein and fat combo. People tend to love almonds and cashews, but everything ranging from pistachios with the shell onto walnuts or even pecans are great for snacking on. And if you tend to keep a packet of oatmeal at your desk, they are great for adding to that as well.

DRIED FRUITS.
Dried fruit can often satisfy that mid afternoon sweet tooth while also taking you over with filling fiber. People tend to go for a few pieces of dried apricots or even dates that are paired with raw nuts for a dose of healthy fat as well. You can also pair them with a handful of dried nuts or even seeds for a more balanced snack.

NUT BUTTER.
Nut butters such as peanut butter and almond butter are tasty, versatile desk snacks, which people also like to pair it with an apple or banana. Or, if you are anything like a lot of the peanut butter lovers out there, you can also eat it straight from the jar. When it comes to choosing which nut butter you should be going for, it is said that the general rule of thumb is the fewer ingredients, the better it is.

AIR POPPED POPCORN.
Make easy air popped popcorn at the office by adding just a quarter cup of popcorn kernels to a microwave safe bowl, then covering it with a microwave safe plate and popping it in for just about 2 minutes and 45 seconds, which is according to the people who have tried this method. You can also stash seasonings such as cinnamon, red pepper flakes, cumin, turmeric, or even some dried rosemary in your drawer in order to add some flavor. You can also make it ahead at home if you do not have a microwave available at work.

GRANOLA.
This one is a low sugar granola or cereal which is a great dry snack in order to keep at your desk, because you will be able to eat it plain or simply by adding it to different parts of whatever else you tend to eat during the day. For instance, to get extra fancy, you could snag some communal milk from the office fridge and pour it over your bowl for some extra protein. Or you can try adding a bit to your salad for some extra crunch, it may sound weird, but it is delicious!

DARK CHOCOLATE.
Hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with treating yourself during your snack time with some high quality squares of dark chocolate. Cacao is well known for being a great source of magnesium, which is known as a natural stress reliever. Pair it with some peanut butter, nuts, or even some Greek yogurt for a protein filled, satisfying snack. Many people have also suggested that you should be eating chocolate with 70 percent cacao or even higher.

ROASTED CHICKPEAS.
You can try doing it by yourself when it comes to these crunchy snacks or you could also just buy them pre made, but either way, they are a great room temp stand in for your beloved hummus, and they will still pack a protein punch. And there are a number of great roasted chickpea recipes out there, like some of them that will make them taste like a pumpkin spice latte!

WHOLE FOOD GRANOLA BARS.
Granola bars are well known for being one of the easiest snacks around, because they are full of protein, fiber, and healthy carbs. Just remember that some types of granola bars are more nutritious than others, so give the label a read before you buy to make sure that you are gaining all the adequate protein, fats, and not too much sodium.

ENERGY BALLS.
The best thing about energy balls is that you can always make them yourself with ingredients that you might already have available in your pantry. And there are certainly tons of recipes around the web that are both delicious and exciting, like some protein bliss balls which are made from dates, walnuts, cocoa powder, and just a tad bit of espresso.

PITA CHIPS.
If you happen to love pita bread like no other, you should probably be keeping some pita chips at your desk. You can simply buy them flavored or unflavored, and they are also the perfect vessel for eating all sorts of dips. You could also plan to bring some guacamole or hummus as part of your lunch and you can have it with these.

VEGGIE PACKED MUFFINS.
Something that a lot of people do not automatically realize is that baked goods such as muffins will stay good to eat for about a week as long as you keep them in an airtight container, which means that there is no need for a refrigerator! Veggie packed muffins are also a great way to sneak some veggies into your diet and you will also eat a muffin. Meal prep a big batch at the start of your week so that you have some to snack on all week long.

WASABI PEAS.
If you tend to love a little bit of heat here and there, you need to keep wasabi peas at your desk at all times. They are crispy, crunchy, and fiery, and they are also a great way for you to add a bit of texture and spice to a salad or a soup. Not to mention, peas are known for being full of fiber!

Thank you.
