Empowered Women Empower Women (Part 2)

by Stefanie | 16 Mar 2021

Power For All Womankind is a virtual campaign that strives to fight and eradicate issues of injustice and inequality towards women. We have invited 30 real women of different ages, ethnicities, and social backgrounds to speak about life as a woman. Together, let’s understand and respect their amazing stories.

Jessy Chahal

Jessy is a TV anchor, broadcast journalist, moderator, emcee and mother to 2 young kids. It will always be a work in progress to strike that elusive balance between everything that happens in life. But, she believes that self-preservation is a reality we all need. Take a break from your busy work days and just do what makes you happy. When faced with inequality, stand your ground, believe in yourself and bloom despite the obstacles. Leave a path wherever you go and continue empowering women in all that you do. Always remember to love yourself. She hopes for one to take baby steps daily, don’t give up and soon one’ll be on one’s journey!

Amanda Luukinen

Amanda is a certified wellness coach. With the understanding that maintaining that balance between work and personal life will never be perfect, she strives to create healthy boundaries to accommodate everything that’s happening in her life. She has unfortunately experienced discrimination as a woman, and experienced being favoured for being a woman. Either way, she believes that women empowering one another is key to overcoming such a saddening social issue. She hopes for one to notice what brings them curiosity and joy, and follow those things.

Dhan Illiani Yusof

Dhan is a visual artist, fashion designer and women's Malaysia ice hockey player. She tries to prioritise which ventures are best for her growth. Because her work is a true embodiment of herself in personal lenses, she strives to bridge genuine connections with so it’s not only a work venture but a collaboration of mind and hearts. She was often patronised for her ideas and principles, at times even had her abilities undermined. Thankfully, she gradually learnt and grew through the various experiences thus reclaiming how she wanted to be treated as an artist and woman. It isn’t easy but she believes that doing so helps in her personal growth as a person.

Bihzhu

Bihzhu is a singer-songwriter with beautiful heart music. With a firm understanding that success looks different for everyone, she believes that you’ll learn to be content with your achievements. Being amidst a capitalist world, rest is often assumed as a reward when in fact, it is a fundamental, unassailable right that is key to making everything work. Fortunately, she has not faced overt gender discrimination in her work – that in itself which she considers a privilege. She often tries to use this privilege to help others as she believes there's more than enough space for all of us to coexist; and none of us can win, until all of us win. She hopes one will know one’s worth for it is truly a rewarding and liberating experience.

Anuja Ananthan

Anuja is a full-time mother, yoga teacher and devoted practitioner. It’s a work in progress with the many roles she chooses to play in her life. Working from home has enabled her to regroup her focus to begin taking care of herself first. Self -solitude helped fill her cup so she could look after family and work tasks to the best of her abilities. Having faced discrimination in her days of modelling and media, she believes in standing her ground and being completely in charge of herself. Know that it’s okay to struggle because you’ll most definitely go through it to find your comfort and confidence.

Faeznur Binti Farok

Faeznur or fondly known as Benny, is an advocate of self-defense training and martial arts for women. As an integrator who constantly blends her work life with personal life, she believes in embracing her strength and at the same time just living in the present moment. Always busy working on herself, she believes strongly in the mantra “nobody cares, work harder”. She ensures that her voice is heard and always puts in all her effort in all that she does. She hopes for one to continue searching for one’s passion. There should be no excuse in working towards a better you.

Pan Per Li

Perli is a specialist coach and fitness enthusiast with a sweet yet tough demeanor. Because she loves what she does, work barely feels like work for the most part. She loves that her work and personal life are intertwined yet balanced out just perfectly. As a fitness enthusiast, she has had her fair share of discrimination and body shaming though she doesn’t let herself get affected with such comments. Know that it’s your life and you’re in full control. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. She wishes for more women to always stick to your authentic self for that is your identity.

Mahani Azis

Mahani is a full-time single mother to 3 children. As a full-time mother, her life has always revolved around her children so finding a balance just isn’t easy. She finds time to spend with her children yet at the same time, that’s also her personal time as she’s a mother. Raising children on her own had unfortunately made her the scapegoat for negative comments. It’s not something that she can avoid but she chooses to instead learn from it. Use it as a motivator to continue what you’re doing. Stand tall, be strong and accept everything that comes your way, be it good or bad. You will prevail stronger than ever.

Sally Erica Lee

Sally is the Head of HR and a single mother of 3 children. One can only imagine being a leader of the home and a leader of a workforce. She learns to prioritize her tasks based on how important they are at a given time. She finds that the most important thing is to take frequent breaks between work to avoid burnout. Being the first lady in the corporate boardroom during her early years of work, she faced many struggles along the way. Yet, she believes that true strength comes from your way of handling these issues. She hopes for one to embrace one’s emotions, chin up and keep going.

Faye Kusairi

Faye is a renowned Malaysian actress who was recently diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. She was 38 weeks pregnant at the time however chose not to let it take over her life. Instead, she chose to remain positive and embrace it. She’s a firm believer that every struggle faced is only an opportunity for her to reflect and grow. Of course, it was not easy but she always ensures to keep everything well-organized and prepared in advance so she would not feel overwhelmed along the way. She also hopes that women never chase time and instead, learn to create time. You need time to discover yourself in order to understand your goal in life.

We are immensely grateful to have 30 incredible women join us on this journey of empowerment. Join us next week to be inspired by our next 10 women!
