Grand Total:

Why Self-Comparison Is Unhealthy?

by Stefanie | 15 Mar 2022

“You can be anything, but you can’t be everything.”

This quote pretty much sums up this entire topic but it’s much easier said than done. Self-comparison can be rather harmless at times ‐ Perhaps you’re wishing you were a little taller. Though for the most part, it’s extremely destructive because you don’t always realize it.

Self-comparison is simply a recipe for disaster. When we compare ourselves to others, we are indirectly channelling all our energy on them rather than ourselves. Likewise, so are others when they’re comparing themselves with us thus leading us to a cycle that never seems to end. Let’s practice this mindset instead ‐ The one thing you’re better at than others is by being you.

With that in mind, you’d be focussing your energy on your capabilities and mindful ways to make self-improvement instead. You’re now striving to be a better version of yourself and when that happens, you’re committed to being happier and content. You look at the world differently with a lens that’s fully catered to helping you reach your full potential, irrespective of how others perceive you. When you stop comparing yourself to others and begin to focus internally, you’ll start being better at what really matters ‐ To be utterly and honestly you.
