Signature Market Cares: Thank You Frontliners!

by Stefanie | 7 Apr 2020

The dreadful Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has instilled valuable life lessons worldwide. Personal hygiene and lifestyle choices have been affected and prioritized with changes being made for the better. Meanwhile, empathy and unity have also been fostered with the goal to heal the nation. Since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), Malaysians of all walks of life have been working together to flatten the curve and contain this outbreak. However, we owe it to our frontliners who have been working tirelessly day in, day out to continue in serving the nation.

Without them, our nation would be ill.

Without them, our nation would be starving.

Without them, our nation would simply be chaotic.

Signature Market would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere appreciation and gratitude to those who have stood between the nation and COVID-19. To our government officials, healthcare professionals, delivery partners, safety enforcement officers, journalists and reporters, grocery clerks and so many more, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Malaysians not only stand behind you, but with you. As frontliners ourselves, we understand what you are going through and let us work together for our nation. In unity, we will most definitely prevail.

We have put together 3 thoughtful and social distance-friendly ways of giving back to our frontliners. Let us put our differences aside and unite as one nation. After all, we are part of a melting pot of cultures and people.

1. Stay at home.

Giving back to our frontliners need not be difficult. We have heard the sentence “Just stay at home” being said numerous times by our very own Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin so it has to mean something. Since the virus is spread through respiratory droplets either through sneezing or coughing, it is relatively easy to get infected without you actually knowing it. This can be done by touching something in which the virus may have landed on. Therefore, by staying at home and reducing our contact with other people, we have a higher chance of avoiding the infection. As such, the number of infected cases can be significantly reduced thus allowing time for our healthcare professionals to regain their energy and rest.

2. Donating.

We believe that no amount is too little as it is your deed that supersedes it. There are numerous NGOs and organizations that have set up funds, collecting donations to be channeled towards supplying an urgent need of medical supplies and hospital equipment. It is truly unfortunate seeing our healthcare professionals and hospitals at a crossroad as they face this unexpected time. However, by donating directly for this cause, it speeds up the time to produce and bring in the needed essentials hence allowing them to treat patients. Meanwhile, donating to NGOs that focus on preparing warm, hearty meals for our frontliners is another amazing cause as well. This is because certain frontliners may not have enough time and resources to feed themselves a well-balanced meal during such an unprecedented time. These NGOs work on supplying meals daily for these amazing individuals to ensure their energy levels are up at all times.

3. Appreciation posts.

As our frontliners sacrifice and work long hours to fight COVID-19, they are not only at risk of contracting the virus itself, but also at having a mental breakdown. This pandemic could threaten the mental health of frontliners, which might lead to depression, anxiety and insomnia. With certain stigmatisation that may erupt, it can also cause them to feel isolated from their family and friends. Understanding the need to protect the mental health of frontliners, government officials have been working with NGOs to design support services for this cause. As members of the public, we can play our part by sharing about their contributions and sacrifices made. By getting more people involved in this cause, it can allow frontliners to feel appreciated and help in lightening their burden. You can even make it fun by setting a specific date and time to gather Malaysians to prepare and convey some form of appreciation for our frontliners.
