Making your own baby food sounds difficult but it doesn’t take a genius or many steps. The basic steps are technically just cooking the food and then making it into a puree. Before heading to the recipes, here are some tips to ensure making these baby food Malaysia to go smoothly.
• Save time by steaming most vegetables, keep it simple and easy. However, vegetables like sweet potatoes, beets and carrots would definitely taste better roasted

4 months to 6 months old

At this stage, it is always best to keep it simple with minimal number of ingredients in the food you make. This way, you are able to observe for any food allergies or sensitivities.



1. Banana Puree
One of the best food to feed your baby, bananas are rich in fiber and also potassium. Not only that, it is known as nature’s own antacids and is gentle on the stomach. But be careful not to feed your baby too much bananas as it would cost constipation.

Ingredients

• 1 Small Banana

• Peel the banana and mash it up with a fork.
• In the first stages of weaning, you can add a little milk if necessary to thin down the consistency and add a familiar taste for your baby.
• Serve with breast milk or formula milk



2. Carrot Puree
Carrots are great solid foods to introduce to your newborns as they are naturally sweet and it has a pleasant texture. With this, you are also preparing a great ordeal of antioxidant beta carotene and vitamin A for your baby.

Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Portion Size : 5

Ingredients
• 500 grams Carrots
• 250 milliliters Water

• Peel the carrots and cup them into small equal chunks
• Using a medium saucepan, boil the water and carrots together.
• Once it’s boiling, leave it to simmer for about 20 minutes (depending on your carrots)
• Once the carrots are soft, let it cool and blend in the the blender
• You can freeze these in small portions for storing

7 months to 9 months old

At this age, you are able to make baby foods that are thicker with more ingredients. However, it is always best to keep in mind to introduce only one new ingredient at a time so that you are able to monitor your baby’s allergies and reactions towards different ingredients.



1. Blueberry Beets Mash
Not only eye catching with its beautiful shade of magenta, it is also a very nutritious mix of antioxidants, fiber and vitamins. Besides that, you could also mix it with a little cereal for additional fiber to keep your baby’s tummy full.

Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Portion Size : 5

Ingredients
• 2 Medium-sized Beets, wash and chopped into small chunks
• 150 grams Blueberries, frozen or fresh
• 250 milliliters Water

• Rinse beets, remove skin and chop into small equal sized cubes.
• Along with the blueberries, add both into a medium sized saucepan.
• Add water, just enough to cover the beets and blueberries. Cook on medium high heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until tender.
• Once it’s soft, let it cool down for about 10 minutes and blend it into a puree.


2. Spinach and Yam Puree
This combination of ingredients is great for your baby, it adds a healthy dose of iron, calcium, vitamin A and folate to their diet. The yam gives it a taste of sweetness to give a pleasant introduction to greens.

Preparation Time : 15 minutes
Cooking Time : 35 minutes
Portion Size : 4

Ingredients
• 250 grams Spinach
• 250 grams Yam, preferably white
• 375 milliliters Water

• Wash and stem the spinach but do not dry it, it is better if it stays moist
• Peel and chop the yam into small equal cubes
• In a large pot, boil the water and yam. Once it’s boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and leave it for about 10 minutes
• Add in the spinach and leave it to simmer until both ingredients are soft
• Once it’s tender enough, let it cool down for a bit and then blend it into a puree



3. Banana Avocado Puree
A combination of two great foods which are avocados and bananas. This puree would be rich in good fats, fiber, potassium and vitamin C. This baby food Malaysia would definitely be a win for your baby. The banana also adds a bit of sweetness to the puree and lightens up the dense avocado.

Preparation Time : 15 minutes
Cooking Time : 0 minutes
Portion Size : 4

Ingredients
• 2 Avocados, riped
• 2 Bananas, riped
• 3 teaspoon Pineapple juice / Lemon juice / apple cider vinegar

• Peel the avocados, remove the seeds and cut into smaller pieces
• Peel the bananas
• Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until the puree is smooth. You can also use a bowl and fork to mash it up.
• The purpose of adding the juice or vinegar is to avoid the puree from turning brown after storage.

9 months to 12 months old
When your baby grows to be this age, they can now enjoy chunkier baby foods. Not only that, you can also incorporate dairy products such as cheese and yogurt. Babies at this age can also start eating adult foods, as long as they are finely minced or softened.



1. Fish and Vegetable Puree
This combination of foods would help support your baby’s development of their central nervous system due to the white fish that contains omega 3 fatty acids. Not only that, leeks are known to provide cardiovascular support and carrots contain high levels of antioxidant.

Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 25 minutes
Portion Size : 5

Ingredients
• 150 grams White fish
• 3 Carrots
• 1 Leek
• 120 milliliters Water

• Peel the carrots and cut them into small equal sized cubes. Wash the leek and cut into small pieces as well
• In a medium sized saucepan, bring the water to boil over medium heat, place the rest of the ingredients to steam for 15 minutes while covered.
• Let the ingredients cool down and then blend it into a puree.
• You may add more water if the consistency is not to satisfaction.
