Soap and shower gel, which is better for you?

This argument has been debated for a long time. Some people say that the soap can cause great harm to our body while some argue that shower gel contains a chemical composition which may result in cancer.

So, bathing only with water is the best way?

Let's find out the answers to these questions by exploring the differences between soap and body wash:

1. Cleaning effect
Normally, soap has better cleaning effect than body wash. As most of the soap contains alkaline which is helpful to clean our body's pores, wash off the sweat, skin grease, dust and stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis, consisting of dead cells ).

However, your skin may become quite dry after your skin grease is washed off. Thus, you can try some gentle plant-based soaps which can cleanse and nourish your skin without removing the natural protective oils.

2. Moisturizing effect
Body wash is more moderate and moisturizing than soap. After using body wash, the skin is more smooth because the surface of the active agent in the bath react with calcium and magnesium in the water and become water film on the surface of our skin.

However, some body washes contain a compound similar to dish soap which will strip off the essential nutrients of our skin. Thus, it's better to use body wash that is definitely safe and has added moisturizer.

3. Personal preference
If you are used to using soap, you will feel unclean when using shower gel. And some may prefer body wash as it is more convenient and better for their skin. Thus, it is really all about personal preference.

Skin traits also play a vital role when we make the decision. Skin is generally divided into four types: dry skin, normal skin, oily skin and combination skin. Different types of skins are suitable for different caring methods:
