Nutritional Yeast is a natural food additive made from a single-celled organism, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, which is inactivated by heat so it doesn’t froth or grow like baking yeast does so it has no leavening ability. It is used by many ​vegans because of its unique flavor and similarity to cheese when added to foods.

Nutritional yeast is an excellent source of plant-based protein, which containing 18 amino acids and 9 of them are essential to our body. Besides, it also contains folic acid, which is important for formation, growth and reproduction of red blood cells. Besides, nutritional yeast is packed with Vitamin-B including thiamine, folate, B-6 and niacin. Just half of a tablespoon of nutritional yeast will provide you with a day's worth of B vitamins. Vitamin B12 is very difficult to obtain as a vegan, who avoid all meat, dairy, and eggs. Hence, nutritional yeast is recommended for vegans.

Nutritional yeast has a flavor that has been described as cheesy, nutty, savory, and “umami”. Hence, it may be used as cheese replacement in pasta, pizza, popcorn and bread. Sprinkle on cereals, salads, tofu and rice. Add to juices, sauces or soups.
