What’s the largest tree fruit in the world? If you guessed that it’s our local favourite cempedak aka jackfruit, you’re right! Not only is it large in size, it has an impressive list of health benefits too! Often used in its raw form as a meat substitute due to its similar texture, jackfruits are versatile fruits that can be used in desserts or even curries. The flesh of the jackfruit contains carbs, protein and fibre with very little fat but it’s its protein content that is unusual as it may contain up to three times the amount of protein available in other fruits. It’s low on the glycaemic index and may even help with blood sugar management due to its fibre-rich flesh.
