With a name as cute as Cat’s Whiskers, one would expect a sweet brew but Misai Kucing Tea as it is usually known, is a more earthy acquired taste with bitter notes. But put aside the flavour of the tea and you get a wonderful treatment for diabetes, urinary tract issues, arthritis and gout. Also known as Java Tea or Kidney Tea, misai kucing is a diuretic that contains high levels of potassium and orthosiphonin glycosides which are capable of dissolving uric acid, phosphates and oxalates in the body to reduce the severity of UTIs and kidney issues. It also helps to regulate blood sugar levels, thus making it an option for diabetics looking to lower their blood sugar levels.
